The Dade County
Lady Wolverines opened play in the Region 7AA tournament at Georgia Highlands
College in Rome on Wednesday needing one win to qualify for the state
tournament.
Opening play
against Murray County Dade found themselves needing to beat the Lady Indians
for the third time this season.
Things didn’t
start well for the Lady Wolverines as the Lady Indians seemed determined to
spoil their season and took a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Dade had a real
battle on their hands as the Lady Indians matched them basket for basket and
built on their lead in the second quarter. At the end of the first half the
Lady Indians held a 23-20 lead.
Coach Randy
Watson must have said all the right things at half time because the Lady
Wolverines came out a different team. Not only did they take the lead they held
Murray County scoreless in the third quarter and built an 11 point lead, 34-23.
More of the
same followed in the fourth quarter and the Lady Wolverines head to the state
tournament with the 47-32 win.
Erika Woodfin
led the Lady Wolverines with 24 points.

On Friday night
Dade faced the Model Lady Blue Devils and got off to an ugly start.
Just a couple
of minutes into the game Lindsay Tinker hurt her ankle and was lost for the
rest of the tournament.
At the end of
the first quarter the Lady Wolverines found themselves in a deep hole, down
18-4.
The second
quarter didn’t get a lot better for the Lady Wolverines as Model built their
lead to 25-7 before a shot rally cut it to 26-14 at the end of the first half.
Dade had
another third quarter rally in their pocket however cutting the Lady Blue
Devils lead to 28-23 with four minutes remaining in the third. Model however
didn’t get rattled and by the end of the third quarter was on top 34-25.
Neither team
was able to do much in the fourth quarter as only seven total points were
scored and the Lady Blue Devils advance to the finals with a 38-28 win.
Ansley Chilton
and Tori Gass led the Lady Wolverines with six points each.

consolation game.
Dade again
struggled in the first half as the Lady Indians took the lead at the end of the
first quarter, 17-13. The Lady Wolverines kept battling and by the end of the
first half had a one point lead, 24-23.
Unlike the past
couple of games the third quarter wasn’t good for the Lady Wolverines. The Lady
Indians would take a five point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 36-31.
The fourth
quarter belonged to Dade however as they battled back to claim a very hard
fought 48-46 win and the third seed for the upcoming State Tournament.
Woodfin came up
big for the Lady Wolverines scoring 27 points to lead all scorers.
