The Wolverine
baseball team opened the 2013 season Monday afternoon when they hosted the
Ridgeland Panthers.
New Wolverine
baseball Coach Brad Weir fielded a young team that is still missing some
players that are involved in basketball but overall play was good.
Due to all the
bad weather the Wolverines have only gotten to practice on the field a couple
of days and that lack of field time showed up at times for the host.
While the
Panthers won the game 8-3 there was several bright spots for the Wolverines
including some good pitching at times and in spite of several players having to
play out of position the defense played relatively well.
Garrett Moore
led the Wolverine offense with three hits, including a long home run late in
the game.
The Wolverines
are scheduled to travel to Atlanta this weekend for three games, weather
permitting.
On Feb. 26 the
Wolverines will travel to Ridgeland.
The next
Wolverine home game will be on March 5th when they will host Lakeview Ft.
Oglethorpe at 6 p.m.
