A routine
traffic stop last week by the Dade County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the
confiscation of a large sum of cash and one person charged with possession of
marijuana less than one ounce and following to close.
Charged was 25
year old Lailaa Yaasmeen Woods Green of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Deputy Eric
Hartline was traveling west on I-24 observed a Chevy Malibu following very
close to the vehicle in front of it on a wet roadway.
While speaking
to the occupants Deputy Hartline detected the strong odor of raw marijuana
coming from the vehicle. When the
occupants were asked about the odor the passenger, Christopher Henry stated he
smoked some marijuana about an hour ago.
Deputy Hartline
was joined by Sgt. Matt Cole and K-9 Deputy Scott Parker. A free air search
using his K-9 partner Rossi resulted in a positive alert on the vehicle.
A search was
then conducted and a box with what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette in a
shoebox that Green admitted was hers.
Further
searching revealed a bag and when opened several bundles of cash was found.
Both occupants
denied any knowledge of the money and signed disclaimers of ownership and
waiver of rights form stating that the currency was not theirs.
After Green was
charged both subjects were released.
When deputies
counted and secured the cash it amounted to $30,656.00.
