The Dade County
Wolverine basketball team hosted the Chattooga Indians on Tuesday night last
week and found themselves in a battle early in the game.
In the first
quarter the Indians matched the Wolverines shot for shot and at the end of the
first quarter it was a one point game 14-13 with the Wolverines on top.
The Wolverines
opened it up in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 25-9 and that
turned out to be the deciding factor in the game as the two teams matched
points exactly in the second half.
Up 39-22 at the
end of the first half the Wolverines outscored the Indians 18-17 in the third
quarter but the Indians outscored the Wolverines 21-20 in the fourth.
Due to the big
second quarter the Wolverines claimed a 77-60 region win to improved to 4-1 in
region and 12-3 overall.
Cole Birchfield
led the Wolverine scoring with 21 points with Dustin Howard scoring 18 and

On Friday night
the Wolverines traveled to Pepperell to face the Dragons in another region
contest.
The Wolverines
got off to a really slow start scoring only seven first quarter points and fell
behind 13-7.
Finding their
shooting range in the second quarter, the Wolverines outscored the Dragons
25-14 to take a 32-27 halftime lead.
The Wolverines
scored 21 in the third but the Dragons answered with 20 to stay within striking
distance, 53-47.
In the fourth
quarter the Dragons outscored the Wolverines 16-9 to claim the win 63-62.
As time expired
an obvious foul was not called that would have put the Wolverines at the free
throw line with a chance to win the game but those things happen when you play
away from home.
That puts the
Wolverines in third place in region play behind Calhoun, who comes to Trenton
on Friday night and Pepperell. They both have 4-1 records while the Wolverines
are currently are 4-2.
Bell led the
Wolverines with 21 points followed by Birchfield with 20 and Howard with 10.
Howard also had
sfevenrebounds and Nic Gaddis had seven assist.
Tuesday night
the Wolverines hosted Coosa and on Friday night a big game with Calhoun is on
tap.
