The Dade County Lady Wolverines hit the road last week for a pair of sub-region games and came away with a split.
On Tuesday night they traveled to Chattooga to face the Lady Indians.
The game started off slow as both teams had trouble finding the basket. In the first quarter the two teams managed only seven points each.
Holly Gross scored five of the Lady Wolverines seven points hitting a pair of free throws and a three point shot midway through the quarter.
The host Lady Indians took control in the second quarter when the Lady Wolverines still couldn’t get their shots to fall and at the end of the first half were down 26-18.
The Lady Indians came out and scored the first six points of the third quarter to go up 32-18. Each team then had short spurts of their own and at the end of the quarter the Lady Wolverines still trailed 41-33.
With four minutes left in the game the Lady Wolverines were down 57-46. They then scored the next seven points to cut the lead to 57-53. The Lady Indians rallied and with 1:08 remaining led 61-58.
An Erika Woodfin basket made it 61-60 Chattooga with 54 seconds remaining in the game.
The Lady Indians then hit three free throws to make the final margin 64-60, handing the Lady Wolverines their second sub-region loss of the year.
The Lady Wolverines battled back and almost pulled out the win but couldn’t get a shot to fall in the final minute, missing several chances to take the lead.
Erika Woodfin led the Lady Wolverines with 19 points followed by Holly Gross with 17 and Ansley Chilton with 12.
On Saturday afternoon the Lady Wolverines traveled to Gordon Central to make up the game that was canceled Friday night due to the snow.
Again both teams had trouble finding the basket in the first quarter. When the first eight minutes were in the books the score was tied 6-6.
The Lady Wolverines started to hit on all cylinders in the second quarter as they outscored the host 21-10 to take a 27-16 lead at the end of the first half.
The second half was more of the same for the Lady Wolverines as they went on to a 55-36 win.
Erika Woodfin had a big night scoring 24 points. Holly Gross finished with 14 and Ansley Chilton finished with 11.
This week the Lady Wolverines hosted Calhoun in a key sub-region game on Tuesday.
On Friday the Lady Wolverines will travel to Adairsville and on Tuesday of next week they travel to Sonoraville before ending the regular season at home against Chattooga on Feb. 12th.
