Keeping Your Home Secure
It is summertime and the warm weather invites people outside to enjoy many outdoor activities like swimming, barbecuing, gardening and camping, just to name a few. The warm weather also seems to bring other unwelcome activities.
While it is true that research shows an increase in some criminal activities with the onset of warmer weather, Dade County seems to generally have escaped a rise in crime this summer.
With regards to burglaries –though most people have already enjoyed their summer vacation – the Dade County Sheriff’s Office and Trenton City Police have a few tips for those who are planning to head out of town.
• Make sure all doors (including garage doors) and windows are shut and locked.
• Lock up valuables such as guns, jewelry, etc. in a safe.
• Lock up electronics.
• Both the Trenton City Police Department and the Dade County Sheriff’s Office keep lists of people who are out of town. The list lets officers know to be watchful of activity around those homes. Before leaving town it is a good idea to call the Sheriff’s office or police department and have your home placed on the list.
• It is always a good idea to have some form of a security system to protect your home and possessions.
