According to the Dade County Sheriff’s Department, rangers at Cloudland Canyon went to lock park gates around 10:30 p.m. Monday night when they found a suspicious vehicle in the parking area.
The registered owner’s information was retrieved by officers and contact was made with the family who informed them that Judy Payne from Rock Springs was supposed to have taken the vehicle to work.
Officials were also told that Payne should have already been home from work, but was not. Payne’s belongings were found in the vehicle.
A search of the trails was made Monday night and an extensive search of the entire park was being made Tuesday morning with Department of Natural Resource officials, the Dade County Sheriff’s Department, Trenton Fire and Rescue, and assistance from the Georgia State Patrol.
A state patrol helicopter equipped with a Forward Looking Infrared (or FLIR) system was utilized as well and came up with a negative result.
