ONLINE UPDATE
The time to qualify for most local elections ended today, and many candidates have lined up for positions. Here are some of the races being contested this year.
For the District 3 county commissioner race you have Incumbent David Young, Robert Goff, Chris Howard and Christopher Thornton. All the candidates in this race are Republicans, so the primary will decide the winner of the race.
For County Commission District 4, the position being vacated by Sarah Moore, the voters have to choose between Peter Cervelli(R) and Melinda Bryson(R). The County Executive position will be filled by either Anthony Emanuel(R), Don Townsend(D), John Deffenbaugh(R), Alan Bradford(R), Ted Rumley(R), or Carnell Galloway(D). Current County Executive Ben Brandon will not be seeking re-election.
In contention for the Sheriff contest are incumbent Patrick Cannon(R), Nathan Baker(D), Tim McDonald(R), and Mike Norris who is running as an independent.
On the School Board, Incumbent Carolyn Bradford(R) will be facing her nephew by marriage, Rickey Murdock(D), for the District 4 race.
Ronny Page(R) and David Moon(D) will be vying for the position being vacated by Terry Pettus, and Nathan Wooten(R) will be facing challengers David Swader(R) and Mackie McBryar(D) for the Chairman position.
All candidates have not yet announced for the non-partisan contest, and they have until June to qualify for those races.
