By DON PITTMAN First published in the March 19 edition

Bradley Warren is coming home to Dade County because he has taken the position of head football coach and Athletic Director for Dade County High School.

He most recently served as the head coach at Gilmer High School in Ellijay.

Thirty-six year old Warren is the son of Johnny and Nita Warren of Trenton and graduated from Dade County High School in 1989 when the school was called Northwest Georgia High School.

Warren and his wife, Allison, have two children. Their daughter, Taylor Warren is seven and their son, John Brett Warren is two.

Coach Warren said that he is very excited about coming home to coach the Wolverines.

“I’ve been watching film and gearing up,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

Football has been a part of Warren’s life for a long time. He played football at

Northwest Georgia during the school’s undefeated season his junior year of high school.

The position at Dade will be his fourth head coaching position since graduating from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he played football with Terrell Owens. Before Gilmer County, Warren was the head football coach at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville.

While at Central Gwinnett, the football team has ended the state’s longest winning streak of 47 wins by defeating three-time state champion, Buford High School.

We're going to put a staff together and get competitive,” Warren said.

Warren said he admired the direction that former coach Charlie Hammond had started at the school, and that he planned to continue working that way.

“The team is extremely strong,” he said. “That’s going to be nice.”

Coach Warren said he plans to implement a speed and agility program as soon as he gets to Dade County. The School Board said Warren is expected to arrive March 20.

WARREN NAMED HEAD COACH

Welcome home Coach Warren! I've known Bradley since Mrs. Hale's Kindergarten class at Trenton Methodist Church. I hope that everyone welcomes Coach Warren and his wife and daughter and son back home to Dade County. Bradley really is a great guy-he's friendly, polite, respectful and he will be a great example for Dade's young people. He's really a team builder. I remember playing at his house after Mrs. Hale's class and he first showed me about team building not by playing sports, but with the Mego Action Figures, like Shazam, and Superman and the Green Lantern, and we always had a great time playing. And when we were in high school, Bradley organized all the French students into study groups for a big project we had one time. We all worked together under his leadership and shared the work and learned together. He was able to communicate with everyone in the class, and that was where I really learned about teamwork and working together-not from sports or Sooperfood-but by Bradley's leadership during our French class with Mrs. Shadrick. That's the one example that I remember so vividly and it really stuck with me for 20 years. It's called leading by example. Coach Warren then and now is not arrogant or prideful. I think that a lot of local politicians could look to Coach Warren as an example of how to act and treat others. So I'm not trying to embarass Coach Warren here. My point is to reminisce and show everyone that doesn't know- that Coach Warren has always been a quiet and strong leader and team builder, just as his career as a Coach has shown. I'm really proud to know Coach Warren and I'm proud of the school board for bringing him home. I don't know much about football. But I know about character, and that's what Coach Warren has. He doesn't need to read Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" (but I can name some folks in Dade County that do, by the way) because he lives it. And for me, sports is really about character building and loyalty and friendship. So from what I know about Coach Warren's character and personality, he is an obvious asset to the youth of Dade County. Welcome Home Bradley-I'm truly so happy for you and your family and your mother and father.
