WILLIAM HELTON "BILL" PULLEN, SR.
William Helton "Bill Pullen, Sr. died in his sleep at home Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the age of 90. The son of William Roy and Florrie N. Shepard Pullen, he was born and raised in the town of Damascus, Early County, Georgia.
Mr. Pullen moved to Morganville, Dade County, Georgia in the 1940's where he and wife Martha F. Wells Pullen, surviving have celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Mr. Pullen attended Abraham Baldwin College of Agriculture and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Argicultural Engineering. During WWII he honorably served with the U.S. Navy.
A conservationist, Mr. Pullen believed that man was here to work with and protect God's resources for only a short time. For over 25 years, he served on the Coosa Valley Soil and Water District Board of Directors for Soil Conservation Service and was the first president of the Tri-State Cattleman's Association. He was one of the original signers of the loan to establish the Dade County Water Authority that now supplies water to Trenton and Dade County.
He was a long-standing member of the Morganville United Methodist Church. Mr. Pullen successfully pursued his life's passion of agriculture by farming timber, raising cattle, and growing produce. He owned and operated a logging and forest products business for many years. Mr. Pullen's life reflected his focus on faith, family, country, Dade County, and agriculture. His favorite thing in life was to be called "HiBubba."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Edwin R. and wife Jennie B. Pullen of Statesboro, Ga., only son William H. Pullen, Jr., M.D. and wife Sandra T. Pullen of Wildwood, Ga. Grandchildren William H. Pullen, III, D.V.M. and wife Claudia of Wildwood, Ga., Randolph E. Pullen, M.A. and wife Qian of New York City, and Elizabeth Jean Pullen, M.Ed. of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. EST Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Windom officiating. Interment will be in Brock Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-9:00 p.m. Sunday, 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-9:00 p.m. Monday.

Eugene Clarence (Gene) Vann, 73, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 6, 2007. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of Bryant Baptist Tabernacle.
Mr. Vann was preceded in death by his parents Wendell & Lois Vann; sister Beatrice Vann Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years Ethel Hill Vann of Trenton, Ga.; son Cecil (Bud) Lamberth of Trenton, Ga.,; sister Wilma Vann Dalton of Bryant, Ala.; brothers Richard Vann, John Vann, David Vann, Garvin Vann all of Bryant, Ala. and Jerry Vann of Ringgold, Ga.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services 2:00 p.m. EST Sunday in Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Winters and Rev. Steve Camp officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Park.
